Tracing the Elliotts Worldwide

It has been a very long, and arduous process to trace the deceased and living descendants of Elliotts of St. Kitts & Nevis. However, through the stories, pictures and care of Elliotts around the world, we are piecing together a rather impressive history, potentially reaching as far back as the early 1800's and to the continent of Africa and northern England.

STORY OF THE ELLIOTT CLAN

Nevis

  • Based on historical evidence, DNA/genetic testing and family lore, it appears that Benjamin (1849 - 1927) &  Lancelot (1845 - 1930) Elliott were brothers. They lived in Stoney Hill and Rawlins Village.

  • It is very likely that Benjamin and Lancelot's father or grandfather was a European male from Northern England. Many family members share the story of 3 Elliott Brothers who arrived to the Caribbean from England - one settling in Jamaica, one in St. Kitts and another on Nevis. This story is told independently - by family members who have no prior communication.

  • Benjamin and Lancelot may have had more siblings. There is another male Elliott: Joseph Elliott (born @1830, married Sarah Jane Hendrickson) who may have been a brother or uncle but this is an unverified hypothesis.

  • The oldest documented female with the surname Elliott on Nevis was named Margaret Elliott (1816 - 1903). The second oldest female was named Matilda Elliott (1833-1909); both died in Gingerland.

St. Kitts

  • The first documented Elliott born on St. Kitts is an unnamed female born on April 28, 1859 to an Elizabeth Elliott.

  • The second documented Elliott is Joseph Elliott, born December 13, 1859 [mother also named Elizabeth Elliott]. Joseph had two brothers: John James and Albert Edward.

The connection between the Elliotts of Nevis (primarily of Gingerland) and of St. Kitts is not clear at this time. We are still researching! Click on each name below to learn more about the descendants of Benjamin, Lancelot, Joseph, and John James.
